Awards for All grant application success!

Great news! We have been successful in our application to Awards for All Scotland for £9606 to fund access to the community garden. This includes the construction of a road entrance from Brownstown Road and an area of hardstanding inside the field (a condition of our planning permission), and internal paths. This is the funding boost we require to start the project.

The Big Lottery Fund is the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.  The Fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.

This grant builds on the generous support from OHAL who provided land as well as a range of equipment from Climate Challenge Fund’s Growing Green educing Energy project, and Stromness Community Council who funded site fencing and gates.

It is hoped that the creation of the allotments and community garden will provide a focal point for people of all ages – families, children, people on their own – to come together to share skills and ideas about planting, tending and harvesting produce, and grow fruit and vegetables best suited to Orkney conditions.

New members always welcome!

We can now press ahead with these groundworks before opening the site to the public.

Thank you Awards for All!
