Six members of the Burray & South Ronaldsay Garden Club came through to Stromness on May 30th to visit the Community Garden.
Two of the Stromness trustees (Kate and Ian) gave them a tour, explained some of the history and talked about what’s planned. Our turf windbreaks caught their eyes, as did the first of the wild orchids to show.
The South Isles gardeners had experience to share of course, such as alternatives to willow for shelter belt planting. They’re interested too in helping with repairs to our dry stone dykes.
Hosting the Burray & South Ronaldsay gardeners was a pleasure.
On behalf of their club, Lindsay Campbell made an unexpected donation to the Stromness Garden. So thank you to them for their generosity and for taking the time to head west.
