Get well soon

Here’s an update on progress towards getting the Garden a sustainable water supply. The trustees and fellow members are still looking for help. What can you offer? There’s plenty of work to do. To get contractors in and have a borehole and pump installed is going to cost something like £5–7,000. Kate and Ian will … Continue reading

Wet and dry progress in July

Two workdays this month mean the Garden has now gained an actual pond (not just huge squelchy puddles) in the boggy area near the northern fence line. It’s officially a wildlife pond too, as a toad hopped in even while we were still digging. Hopefully plenty more plants and creatures will adopt it. There are … Continue reading

June 14th work day

Team effort made for really good progress inside the polytunnel at today’s work day. And we welcomed two new members, recently moved to Stromness, who were happy to muck in too. With plenty of hands on deck, completing the second half of the path edging took just over an hour. Then we moved some boulders … Continue reading

Paths near completion! Next work day Sun 10th August

We had a productive work day last Saturday. Field drains were laid below the path and geotextile and stone chips were laid. A culvert was built from concrete blocks and slabs for the main ditch. It’s all very dry now but this area was ankle deep in surface water in the spring! The path now nearly … Continue reading

Path half way there

The main curving path is half built! Rapid progress was made last Saturday on the construction of the main path. Following the delivery of a rather daunting 16T pile of stone chips, we soon set about shovelling and barrowing half of it into the new path. The path is just bthe job and looks great … Continue reading
