First workday for 2016 on 20th March

New site plan

Ecopaving and out

Preparing for the new shed

Andrew, Mary and Dan were out at the site this morning preparing a level area for the new shed. All going well this will be delivered next week. We can then get everything on site ready for the next few months and the set up tasks ahead.

Entrance and hard standing completed!

The new entrance to the community garden and area of hard standing are complete. Thanks to BDS for such a fine job. We need to cover the hard standing with ecopaving and await the delivery of the shed. Exciting times!

Work starts on the new entrance and hard standing

Work started apace this week on the new road entrance and hard standing for the community garden site. This is funded by our Big Lottery grant and will enable us to commence with setting up the site. The works are due to finish this week.

Awards for All grant application success!

Great news! We have been successful in our application to Awards for All Scotland for £9606 to fund access to the community garden. This includes the construction of a road entrance from Brownstown Road and an area of hardstanding inside the field (a condition of our planning permission), and internal paths. Fencing completed!

Ground was broken for the first time today at the community garden site with the new fencing completed. With the expert help of Tommy Russell and his fencing machine the stainers, stabs and wire was in place in no time. Funding boost from Stromness Community Council

Stromness Community Council have given their backing to the project and agreed to provide funding for materials to erect a stock proof fence to divide the field at Brownstown Road.  A gate  will also be installed to provide access to the adjacent Marwick Playing Fields (community owned land).
